True vs False prophets Reverend Kristy Anderson
Prophets and Prophecy

If you do a simple google search to find prophets that are in the world today you will get many results. The truth is although there are prophets in the world today, myself included, there are not millions of prophets in the world. That leaves many wondering how you can know whether someone is a true prophet or not.

A true prophet is called by God himself. Prophecy is not a gift that can be learned it is a gift that is given to one who is called by God. True prophets have visions and dreams of disasters and warnings. Their prophecies are far from rainbows and butterflies. I myself have visions that are terrifying to say the least. However, I do not fear the things I see because I know that God protects me.

There are many people who are Christian and other religions who do not believe that prophets exist anymore. They do not know truth though because God promised to always raise up a prophet. Thus, there always has been and always will be a prophets on Earth as long as the Earth is here. True prophets come in the name of the God of Abraham who is know by most as YHWH or Allah.

A prophet who has been called by God will never advertise and sell their gifts. When I did a simple google search of prophets and prophetic associations every link I clicked on was a webpage where so called prophets were selling prophecies and prophetic training. When I was first called by God I searched high and low for other prophets to get some guidance on what I was experiencing and every one of them tried to charge me when all I wanted was someone to talk to that could relate to what I was going through. Needless to say, I kindly turned each and everyone of them down and God sent people to direct me in using my gift.

Other sites were selling prophetic training courses in which they would train people with no gift of prophecy to become a prophet. If you run into these types of prophets run because prophecy cannot be learned. The prophets who offer prophetic training courses and who charge you for prophetic sessions are false prophets. True prophets help those in need, free of charge, if God allows them to help the person who is seeking prophetic help.

Using you gift of prophecy to help others who are seeking prophetic help is perfectly ok with God. If God has any objections then a true prophet will not be able to help a person if they tried because everything a prophet sees or hears comes from God or one of God's angels that he has sent to help the prophet or deliver a message to the prophet.

Prophets in the Bible all have a unique way of being called and some are called after they have died and been given a second chance by God, such as Jacob and Jonah. Children can also have the gift of prophecy. Samuel was just a boy when God called him and was the youngest prophet that we know of today. All prophets have a special mission or warning to deliver. I know the Christian religion believes that there are major and minor prophets but no prophet called by God is minor.

True prophets cannot just see anything they want to see. They see and hear when God chooses for them to see and hear. Interceding prophets, which is the type of prophet that I have been called to be, are able to go to God directly and speak with God directly for themselves and for others. That does not mean we are always given an answer when we do or that we are helped as soon as we do.

God works on his own time and if we do not understand something then we will when the time for us to understand has come. Real prophets will also never test God or allow anyone to make them test God. If God wants to prove something to others through the prophet he will do so on his own time.

Real prophets may seem as if they have an attitude or chip on their shoulder to some people. We give this impression sometimes for very many reasons. Prophets may be short tempered because they do not always understand how the world needs to be told what is right and wrong when they should naturally know. We see horrible, terrifying things in visions that we may not fear but do scare us. We are usually believed less than psychics and false prophets which is hurtful and discouraging at times. True prophets often have no one to talk to or understand them because we comprehend things are greater than things non prophets cannot comprehend.

True prophets tend to stay to themselves more than false prophets. False prophets are usually like more and more believable to society because they adapt to what is popular in society and turn on their charm so that they will be liked and accepted by society. They do this so that people will like them and support them financially and trust paying for their services. They are not as moody and short tempered as real prophets because they are not real prophets and do not see the terrifying things that real prophets see or have the weight that true prophets have on their shoulders.

The prophets of the Bible all had a little attitude problem especially Elijah and Elisha. Elisha did make a bear eat children when he was having a bad day since the children were calling him baldy. Thus, just because someone is not prim, proper, and always acting how man wants them to act does not mean they are not a prophet. Prophets are however, very moral people.

Below you will find a chart of some Biblical Prophets and their personalities. As you will see most the prophets we know were not perfect. Thus, a person does not have to be the first one on the first row of pews in a Christian Church.

Prophets

Personality

Died Before Becoming a Prophet

Enoch

Enoch lived during the time of Jared. During this time the Watchers lived on the Earth as well as their children, the Giants. God hid Enoch away so that he was not tainted by the evils that life on earth was committing. Enoch remained pure and was able to go to God for the Angels.

Enoch was the first man to never taste death. God took him and he was no more

Moses

Had very much faith and was a Hebrew raised by Egyptians. He was also a murder and stood up against the government (pharos) for injustice. He murdered a man for striking a Hebrew man.

No

Jacob

Jacob was God's favorite and whom God chose to be his. While wrestling with what he believed was a man but was God himself in the wilderness he was struck in the hip and died. He was fighting the man because he demaneded the man to bless him. After dying and seeing God face to face, God gave him his blessing and renamed him Israel.

No

Elijah

Elijah was a moody, hairy man. He also had the gift of bringing back people from the dead. One of those people is a prophet that is on this list who died when he was just a boy. Elijah was the second man to never taste death.

No

Elisha

Elisha was a follower of Elijah and was given double Elijah's spirit when God took Elijah. Elisha was often bullied and had a short temper. He sent a bear to eat children for calling him "Baldy" when he was having a bad day.

No

Jonah

Jonah the prophet I closely resemble. He is a sleepy head and many people believe that he is hard headed and disrespectful but he was neither. He was a man who believed we naturally know right from wrong and I agree with him. He was scared to do the mission that was assigned to him and didn't want to look like a liar because he know God would forgive the people of Ninevah. What he didn't know though is how good of a preacher and people person he was. He convinced the whole city of evil people to turn to God.

Yes, Jonah is the child whom Elijah brought back from the dead.

Yeshua

Though people can't stand to admit it Yeshua was a phrophet of God. He was not God but was the incarnation of the son of God who also had the power to bring back people from the dead. He is the greatest prophet on the list and the spirit that was housed in his flesh, the spirit of God's son, was Enoch's spirit.

There is no proof that he died before becoming a prophet but my daughter has told me a wonderful story, when she was three, in which Yeshua died as a young child to go to God and get his power.
