The True Meaning Of "An Eye for an Eye"

Updated: Sep 23, 2024

What does eye for an eye truly mean?
Eye for an eye

Many people think that God's law is pretty harsh. Those who do, do not truly understand God's law. All God asks for is for us to live morally and do the right thing though. Some say that his law contradicts itself since God commands us not to murder and also tells us "an eye for an eye."

How could God tell us not to murder and then tell us what one does wrong should be done to them? This may seem cruel to some people. Personally, I think that if we did to others what they do to others then the world would be a lot better of a place. However, God does not mean that we should do to others what they do to us.

We must remember that God's law is God's law and that he is the judge when it comes to his law, not us. He executes justice not us. Thus, what God means by "an eye for an eye," is that if someone does something wrong or harms another person, God Himself will cause the same thing to happen to them. We don't have to do anything to them. God sees all and he will punish and reward us accordingly.

Humans need to stop trying to play God and start having faith in him. I have seen God serve justice to people who have wronged me many times in the past and present multiple times. God works very fast when giving those who are his the justice they deserve. He pays those who hurt them back times ten if we are patient and let him work on his own time.

God's law is not harsh. It is not evil. God's laws are natural, moral laws we should all practice anyway.
